We are based in our modern Town Hall, which opened in 2023 and is located a short walk from the town centre and railway station. We are a stock retained authority with over 8,400 homes plus sheltered and hostel accommodation under our management along with over 5000 garages and 1700 leaseholders. The stock is managed by the Crawley Homes division which is part of the council. We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Building Maintenance Surveyor to join our Crawley Homes division. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with either:

  • Some experience in building maintenance or supervisory roles, possibly gained through a college course but lacking hands-on experience, or
  • Extensive experience in a trade-related environment and looking to transition into a surveying career.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Completing building maintenance surveys
  • Supporting our team of surveyors and apprentice
  • Certifying payments, resolving contractor/customer disputes and monitoring the quality of work to ensure statutory compliance is maintained including the relevant Crawley homes policies & procedures.
  • Supervising contracts, approving expenditure, and providing technical and housing advice
  • Taking responsibility where appropriate for the direction and supervision of contractors
  • Working within a dedicated area of Crawley supporting the Building maintenance surveyor
  • Supporting the Operations & Maintenance Manager and Asset Manager in the running of the repair and planned contracts
  • Investigating and resolving customer complaints in line with Crawley Borough Council policy

You will be:

  • A collaborative team player with the ability to work across departments to ensure efficient void, planned, and repair processes
  • Knowledgeable when it comes to property termination, lettings, leasehold management, and technical repair standards

Additional information: The role is based at Crawley Town Hall, with site travel and flexibility for remote working. Satisfactory clearance of a Basic Disclosure & Barring Service check (DBS) is a condition of employment. Travel between sites is required, so a full and current UK driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle is essential. An essential car user allowance is payable for this role.
