The Principal Engineer - Recovery & Resilience will design, engineer and lead implementation and support of an enterprise-wide recovery capability. They will be focused on hands-on execution, orchestration and automation. This role is accountable for moving the organisation from documentation-led disaster recovery to repeatable, orchestrated, and validated recovery execution, with a strong focus on backup tooling, automation, and technical recovery at scale. The role partners closely with Infrastructure, Cloud, Engineering, Security and Application teams and acts as the technical owner for recovery implementation, ensuring recovery capabilities are built, tested, and proven. They will also work with our compliance and internal audit teams as required.

Responsibilities

  • Recovery Engineering & Orchestration: Design and implement end-to-end recovery orchestration workflows. Build dependency-aware recovery workflows that prioritize identity, infrastructure, platform, and application restoration based on business-service needs.
  • Backup Tooling & Data Resilience: Own implementation and optimisation of enterprise backup platforms (Commvault preferred). Implement technical controls and platform configurations that support retention, resilience, and recovery requirements.
  • Recovery Testing, Execution & Validation: Lead, execute and document cyber recovery and disaster recovery exercises across identity, infrastructure, cloud, database, and application layers, including validation of RTO/RPO assumptions. Support testing and recovery planning for regional or large-scale outage scenarios across hybrid environments.
  • Identity & Infrastructure Recovery: In conjunction with IAM SME, design identity-first recovery including AD, Auth0 and Entra ID.
  • Technical Collaboration & Delivery: Work with architects, engineers and developers to implement recovery solutions.
  • Metrics, Reporting & Observability: Implement technical reporting of recovery capability.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience in recovery or infrastructure roles.
  • Hands-on enterprise delivery and recovery experience.
  • Strong hybrid environment experience.

Technical Expertise

  • Backup & Recovery Platforms: Commvault or equivalent.
  • Automation & Orchestration: Terraform, PowerShell, Azure Automation.
  • Identity & Access Recovery: Active Directory, Entra ID. Experience with PAM platforms and privileged access recovery after cyber incidents.
  • Infrastructure & Platform Recovery: Compute, storage, networking. Cloud & Hybrid Recovery: Azure, AWS and hybrid environments.
