The predicted salary is between 12 - 15 Β£ per hour.
This position provides goal-directed support and solution-focused interventions to achieve treatment goals and objectives identified in the client's individualized treatment plan. It facilitates services designed to assist the client with functional deficits and interpersonal and/or environmental barriers associated with their mental illness. The role involves direct support for clients who meet criteria for SED or SPMI diagnosis and require additional one-on-one support aside from outpatient therapy or case management alone. At times, this position will provide services to clients experiencing a psychiatric crisis and assist with stabilization or connecting to needed resources. The attendant in care will aid in the form of direct support, modeling, supervision, and/or cueing to support independent performance of tasks. Most contacts will occur in community locations where the client lives, works, attends school, and/or socialises. Activities are prescribed by a clinician.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in assessment of client needs.
- Assist clients in accessing community-based resources, including providing transportation for clients when necessary and supporting access to other health-related providers.
- Assist clients in implementing tasks related to treatment plan goals.
- Collaborate with community partners and agencies to assist in following treatment plan goals and to assist in securing appropriate community resources.
- Advocate and empower clients to ensure that appropriate services are provided, and necessary benefits are secured.
- Provide information and support to family members of clients as appropriate.
- Assist with crisis management as needed.
- Complete all required documentation for services provided in the electronic medical record in a timely manner.
- Update demographic information as applicable.

Requirements Competency Expectations:
Staff will meet competency expectations, including integration of evidence-based practices and completing required certifications which will be conducted in various manners, including in-person training, online training, webinars, seminars, workshops, and self-directed training. All training, certifications, and competencies will be documented by completion of certificates when available and maintained by the Human Resources Department.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Obtain Certification for Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training.
- MOAB is an in-depth training program that teaches individuals how to recognise, reduce, and manage violent and aggressive behaviour. Training is provided.
- MOAB training requires controlled movements, body positioning, and the ability to perform physical holds and restraint techniques.
- The focus of MOAB training is to use techniques that can be effectively applied by employees of varying physical capabilities while minimising potential harm to both the individual being restrained and the trained themselves.
- Complete additional training as assigned by the Department Director.
Credential and Experience Requirements:
- An associate degree from an accredited university in various behavioural health fields such as clinical psychology, social work, counselling, nursing, rehabilitation, or closely related degree, is preferred.
- Experience in lieu of or in addition to education may be considered.
- Previous experience in a community mental health centre working with individuals with mental illness or substance abuse is preferred.
- Experience in helping professions and occupations is desired and helpful.
- Be able to communicate effectively in spoken and written English language.
- Possess a valid driver's licence.
- Operate office equipment.
- Demonstrate ability to work effectively with individuals with mental illness or addiction.
- Ability to operate effectively within a wide variety of human service situations.
- Be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to move freely in the community and in a wide variety of circumstances.
- Special accommodation that can successfully assist an incumbent will be provided.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry 5-15 pounds occasionally.
- Be able to get on the floor and rise without assistance.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
