The strength of our business lies in our people, and we are looking for an experienced and ambitious Surveyor Manager to take full responsibility for the management, performance and development of our surveying team.
Job Summary
This is a senior management position with full responsibility for our surveyors.
We are looking for someone who can take ownership and accountability. You will be responsible for ensuring our surveying team performs to the standards expected by the business, achieves its KPIs, produces consistently high-quality work and continues to develop professionally.
You will be expected to lead, and enjoy developing as a leader. If you are someone who identifies problems and resolves them, spots opportunities for improvement and acts on them, this role could be for you. You will thrive in being able to manage your area of the business with a high level of autonomy.
Key Responsibilities
- You will be the senior point of contact for our surveyors and will take ownership of their performance, quality, professional development and training, and day-to-day management.
- Take full responsibility for the management and performance of our surveying team
- Lead, manage, mentor and support surveyors from junior through to senior level
- Set clear expectations, objectives and KPIs and ensure these are achieved
- Monitor individual and team productivity and performance
- Identify and address underperformance promptly
- Conduct regular performance reviews and set development plans
- Hold surveyors accountable for the quality and timeliness of their work
- Maintain and improve surveying and quality standards across the business
- Identify recurring quality issues and implement improvements
- Manage surveyor training, qualifications and professional development
- Ensure required training and courses are completed on time
- Support the recruitment, onboarding and development of new surveyorsManage surveying equipment, kit and allocation of resources
- Work closely with Project Managers and senior management to ensure projects are appropriately resourced
- Resolve operational and surveyor-related issues avoiding unnecessary escalation
- Maintain strong levels of surveyor engagement and professionalism
- Help develop processes and systems that improve efficiency and performance
- Ensure the surveying function operates efficiently and profitably
- Take ownership of issues relating to surveyor performance and client satisfaction
- Strong building surveying knowledge and practical industry experience
- Previous experience managing people and performance
- Strong leadership and organisational skills
- Ability to manage and develop surveyors at different stages of their careers
- Confident managing underperformance and having difficult conversations
- Proactive approach to identifying and solving problems
- Ability to work independently and make decisions without constant direction
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Confident communicating with employees, clients and senior management
- Highly organised, reliable and accountable
- Full UK driving licence
- Previous experience managing a surveying department or large surveying team
- Experience within social housing, building surveying, stock condition, energy assessment or Retrofit
- Experience strategically implementing KPIs, quality standards and performance improvement plans
- Experience recruiting, mentoring and developing surveyors
Salary & Bonus
- The salary for this position is £40,000 per year, with the opportunity to earn an additional performance bonus of up to £10,000 per year.
- Performance bonuses are assessed and paid quarterly, with up to £2,500 available each quarter based on agreed targets.
