What does the day to day look like for this role? Directing and co-ordinating all the hygiene activities, including any external hygiene contractor activities carried out on the site and ensuring the team are given the knowledge, skills and training they require. The Hygiene manager leads our Hygiene Supervisor and team leaders to manage our experienced nights hygiene team to make sure that all controls detailed in the quality control manual are met. The role is hands on with the team getting into the nitty gritty of the hygiene function to maintain our exceptional audit standards. You will have an excellent eye for detail, a thorough understanding of Food Safety procedures and legislation.
Key Duties
- To ensure the hygiene operatives are fully conversant with their duties and have received all the necessary training in order to carry out such duties in a safe and competent manner.
- To establish and maintain a cleaning schedule in order to ensure the deep cleaning within the factory is effective and carried out to an acceptable frequency.
- To carry out a validation process of the cleaning carried out on a daily basis.
- Review and update cleaning instruction cards for all areas of the factory for operatives.
- To continually develop hygiene procedures in order to keep up to date with legislation and developing technology.
- To maintain the cleaning sign off and verification paperwork system to provide evidence of effective cleaning for third party auditors and to ensure where cleaning has not been carried out this is clearly documented and rescheduled for a prompt clean.
- To be responsible for the ordering, safe storage and usage of cleaning materials and chemicals.
- To liaise with engineering to ensure that cleaning methods do not jeopardise plant and machinery through water ingress.
- To prepare factory standards and paperwork in anticipation of planned customer and accreditation audits (annual visits).
- Maintain a safe working environment through training, risk assessments and liaising with the Site Technical and H&S Manager.
- Liaise with the Chemical supplier and contractor on a regular basis and maintain a working relationship with the representative.
Role requirements
- CIP Experience required.
- Good understanding of food hygiene and food hygiene technology (Level 4).
- Good understanding of food hygiene legislation.
- Previous experience of leading a hygiene function.
- Confident and presentable during audits.
