We are currently seeking a Palletising Chargehand to be based at our new Preston Cold Store. The purpose of this role is to work under the guidance of the Supervisors and effectively manage the Cold Store packing area and Cold Store Operatives, ensuring that the targets defined by the Cold Store Supervisors and Cold Store Manager are achieved.
Responsibilities
- Supervise all aspects of a designated area to deliver the best quality production efficiently.
- Ensure all product enters the box freezer in the most effective way and meets predetermined quality standards.
- Ensure all products are palletised efficiently and built with integrity.
- Ensure the pallet builder is operational at all times and is serviced with all required inputs.
- Ensure all part pallets are collated accurately to reduce wasted space in the store.
- Ensure lost production time is kept to a minimum.
- Deliver an exceptional level of internal/external customer service through on-time deliveries and minimal customer returns.
- Liaise with the Coldstore Supervisors to identify the correct levels of staff required to fulfil customer demands, ensuring labour costs are kept to a minimum where possible.
- Effectively harness, motivate and develop the team to reduce staff turnover and encourage maximum productivity.
- Conduct compliance checks relevant to the area being worked in and report any non-conformances through the proper processes.
- Ensure closure of any non-conformances raised and proactively prevent repetition.
- Deliver on key performance indicators.
- Carry out activities with full awareness of their impact on the environment, in terms of people and the local area.
- Objectively assess the team's performance.
- Ensure clarity of role for team members, including assigning tasks, coaching and providing feedback.

- 40-hour contract Monday – Friday, 06:00–14:30
- Suitable transport to get to site – HU12 8TB
Qualifications
- Experience in a similar role (team leader, supervisor or chargehand).
- Experience leading and supervising a team.
- Previous experience of FMCG manufacturing, preferably food related.
- Comfortable working in a cold, fast-paced environment to daily targets, safely and in a controlled manner.
- Good level of computer skills (Microsoft Office).
- Resilience and ability to adapt to change.
