Cranswick is a leading UK food producer with revenue exceeding £2.9 Billion. We supply premium food products to major UK retailers, the foodservice sector, and international customers. We are currently recruiting for a Health & Safety Manager to be based at our Preston site (HU12 8TB), with responsibility for our sister site, Cranswick Riverside (HU1 2ET), and our Cold Store sites (HU9). This is a key leadership role responsible for promoting Health & Safety policies and strategies while driving a positive and proactive safety culture across the business.

Main Areas of Responsibility

  • Policy Development & Compliance – lead site Health & Safety team in implementing and promoting H&S policies and procedures / ensure compliance with all relevant H&S legislation and industry regulations / support and deliver continuous improvement on site
  • Risk Management & Incident Prevention – lead accident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans / manage accident reporting processes, including RIDDOR reporting and internal safety audits / support crisis management and emergency response procedures
  • Training & Development – coordinate emergency response training including first aid, fire safety, and equipment handling / keep employees informed of legislative changes and best practice guidance / develop the capability of the H&S team in line with company competency frameworks
  • Safety Culture & Communication – Drive a strong and positive Health & Safety culture across the site / act as the main point of contact for all H&S matters / advise directors, managers, and supervisors on compliance, procedures, and best practice
  • Reporting & Documentation – produce monthly and annual KPI reports covering incident rate, near misses, and audit outcomes / ensure all group Health & Safety KPIs are reported accurately and on time / provide detailed safety performance updates to senior management
  • LOLER & PUWER Compliance – ensure compliance with LOLER regulations, including inspection, maintenance, and certification of lifting equipment / ensure PUWER assessments are completed and maintained for all applicable equipment
  • Audits & Continuous Improvement – conduct regular Health & Safety audits and site surveys across all departments / identify improvement opportunities and implement corrective actions / ensure site survey actions are completed and recorded within required timescales
  • Health & Safety Strategy – review and develop Health & Safety strategies aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements / identify emerging risks and implement proactive improvement plans / work collaboratively with senior management to enhance overall safety performance
  • ISO 45001 Management – lead the implementation and maintenance of the integrated Health & Safety management system / ensure policies and procedures align with ISO 45001 standards / deliver training and awareness sessions relating to ISO 45001
  • Budget Management – manage the Health & Safety budget effectively / ensure H&S projects are approved, delivered on time, and completed within budget

What We Look For

  • NEBOSH / NVQ Level 3 or higher in Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum 3-5 years' management experience within a Health & Safety role in food production, manufacturing, or a related industry
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation relevant to manufacturing operations
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, audits, and accident investigations
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • High attention to detail with experience managing compliance documentation
  • Familiarity with ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety management systems
