A growing clean-energy engineering business is looking for a hands-on Electrical Design Team Manager to take ownership of electrical design across new product development and live engineering projects. You’ll be working on real, physical systems including hydrogen power systems and ammonia cracking technology taking designs from concept through to build, test and deployment. This role is ideal for a strong senior engineer ready to step up, or an existing manager or technical lead who still wants to stay close to the engineering.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Leading hands-on electrical design activities across complex engineering systems
  • Designing and reviewing electrical schematics, control panels and power distribution systems
  • Defining system-level electrical architectures
  • Producing electrical design and manufacturing documentation
  • Supporting build, integration, commissioning and FAT activities
  • Troubleshooting issues on live hardware systems
  • Specifying electrical components including motors, protection devices, instrumentation and cabling
  • Supporting safety and compliance activities including HAZOP, FMEA and functional safety reviews
  • Providing technical guidance and support across a small team of engineers

This is a hands-on engineering role, not a management-only position.

What we’re looking for:

  • Strong experience in detailed electrical design for industrial systems, machinery, automation equipment or process systems
  • Experience producing electrical schematics and panel designs using AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SEE Electrical or similar
  • Knowledge of BS7671 and EN60204
  • Experience working on complex engineered or packaged systems
  • Experience with electrical integration, build, testing and fault finding
  • Exposure to PLC-based systems (Siemens preferred)
  • Comfortable working closely with build and test teams in a fast-moving engineering environment

Desirable:

  • ATEX / hazardous area exposure
  • Functional safety exposure (EN 61511 or similar)
  • Hydrogen, gas processing or industrial process equipment experience

Why apply:

  • Work on cutting-edge hydrogen and ammonia energy technology
  • Be the technical lead for electrical design
  • Join a growing team moving from prototype to commercial deployment
  • Clear progression into technical leadership
