Full-time, permanent opportunity based in Gonerby Moor, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Salary of up to £40,000 per annum.

We are recruiting for a Laboratory Manager to join a growing and innovative organisation within the renewable energy and bioprocessing sector. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced laboratory professional to lead laboratory operations, support technical development, and manage a skilled team within a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and accurate operation of laboratory services while supporting continuous improvement across laboratory processes, reporting, and analytical capabilities. This role would suit someone with strong leadership skills, a proactive approach, and experience working within biological, environmental, water, wastewater, or anaerobic digestion environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of the laboratory
  • Lead, support, and coordinate laboratory technicians and workloads
  • Ensure laboratory analyses and testing are completed accurately and within required timeframes
  • Maintain laboratory quality standards, reporting processes, and data accuracy
  • Develop and implement new laboratory methodologies and procedures
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained, calibrated, and operating effectively
  • Manage laboratory stock levels, supplier relationships, and purchasing activities
  • Maintain up-to-date SOPs, COSHH assessments, and risk assessments
  • Coordinate sample handling, storage, dispatch, and logging processes
  • Deliver training and technical guidance to colleagues and site teams as required
  • Support laboratory development projects, installations, and accreditation activities
  • Produce laboratory reports and maintain accurate laboratory databases and records
  • Work collaboratively with internal departments and external stakeholders to support business operations
What We’re Looking For
  • Degree qualified in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
  • Previous laboratory and line management experience
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively
  • Experience writing SOPs, methods, COSHH documentation, and risk assessments
  • High attention to detail with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confident using laboratory databases and computer systems
  • Experience within anaerobic digestion, water, wastewater, or related sectors would be advantageous
  • MRes or PhD qualification would be beneficial
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel within the UK when required
