A leading space propulsion business is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support the development and delivery of next-generation electric propulsion systems for commercial, scientific and defence space applications. Operating at the forefront of spacecraft propulsion technology, the organisation designs and manufactures advanced propulsion systems and precision fluidic components used by major spacecraft manufacturers across the globe. Due to continued growth in electric propulsion programmes, they are looking to strengthen their Systems Engineering capability with an experienced engineer capable of taking ownership of complex technical projects. This role offers the opportunity to progress into a Lead Systems Engineer position as the business continues to expand its electric propulsion capability.
The Role
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, integration, verification and delivery of electric propulsion systems, working closely with customers, engineering specialists, project managers and product assurance teams. You will contribute to system architecture development, requirements management, design trade studies and qualification activities throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the systems engineering activities for electric propulsion programmes
- Manage customer and system requirements throughout the project life cycle
- Participate in technical discussions with customers and project stakeholders
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver propulsion system solutions
- Perform system-level trade studies and technical assessments
- Develop compliance matrices, verification plans and validation activities
- Support manufacturing, assembly and integration activities
- Review test plans, test setups and qualification programmes
- Analyse and interpret system test data and generate technical reports
- Contribute to design reviews including PDR, CDR, TRR and MRR activities
- Support future product development and technology roadmaps
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related discipline
- Proven experience within electric propulsion systems engineering
- Strong understanding of Hall Effect Thrusters and/or Gridded Ion Thrusters
- Experience working with high-pressure Xenon flow control systems
- Knowledge of propulsion system architecture, integration and verification
- Understanding of pressure regulation, thermal management and contamination control within propulsion systems
- Experience working within the space sector and familiarity with ECSS and/or NASA standards
- Strong systems engineering background including requirements management, verification and validation
Desirable Experience
- MSc or MEng in Aerospace, Space Engineering, Propulsion or Plasma Physics
- Experience with spacecraft qualification programmes
- Knowledge of fluidic, thermal, structural or reliability analysis
- Previous experience mentoring engineers or taking technical ownership of projects
