We are recruiting on behalf of a leading advanced materials manufacturing business for a Product Engineer to join their specialist Belting Technical team based in Bury. This is a great opportunity for an engineer with a passion for product development and problem-solving to work within a globally operating technical team, contributing to the design, development, and continuous improvement of industrial belt products.
The Role
- Working closely with the Technical Manager and a wider global team, you will be responsible for the SAP-based design of Process Belts and conveying belt products for the Eurasian market.
- You will support local production, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and serve as a technical liaison among application, sales, and customer teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage internal SAP design of Process Belts and conveying belt products, working from inputs provided by application and design engineers.
- Contribute product improvement ideas and relay feedback from sales, application, and customer teams to the Technical team.
- Collaborate with the global Technical team to develop and optimise the belt product portfolio.
- Support local production with decisions on non-conforming product and participate in CI meetings and initiatives.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate small engineering projects.
- Produce written technical reports and deliver oral presentations to internal stakeholders.
- Participate in customer visits and contribute to customer-facing technical recommendations.
- Monitor lab reports and competitive analyses; contribute to non-routine sample analysis and reporting.
- Engage with raw material suppliers to stay current on material developments and identify alternative supply options.
What We're Looking For
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Curious, technically minded, and solution-focused.
- Comfortable working independently or as part of a team.
- Ideally, 2+ years of experience in production or product development (not essential).
- Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies and/or Lean Six Sigma is advantageous.
- SAP experience is a plus.
Education
- A degree-level qualification (BEng, BSc, MEng or MSc) in Mechanical, Chemical, Paper, Textile, or a related Engineering discipline is preferred. Candidates with an HNC/HND or equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
The Package
- Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum (depending on experience).
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:15 - 16:30.
- Location: Bury, Greater Manchester.
- Contract: Permanent, full-time.
