SHEQ Manager Location: Hereford-based (with adhoc travel to another site in Shropshire) Salary: Up to £60,000 basic + benefits Reporting To: Managing Director Job Type: Full-time, Permanent About the Role An established industrial business operating across multiple sites in Herefordshire and Shropshire is seeking an experienced SHEQ Manager to take strategic ownership of its Safety, Health, Environment and Quality functions. The successful candidate will play a vital role in driving compliance, cultivating a proactive safety culture, and ensuring operational excellence across manufacturing and processing facilities. This role involves overseeing SHEQ frameworks across three operational sites, including two production facilities and a specialist coating operation. The position requires a hands-on, influential professional with a proven track record of implementing and continuously improving integrated management systems in line with relevant UK legislation and ISO standards. Key Responsibilities Safety & Health Lead the development and execution of the group’s safety strategy, including Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) and Risk Assessments. Ensure compliance with all applicable health and safety legislation (e.g. Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH, LOLER). Conduct regular site audits, inspections, and incident investigations, ensuring findings are actioned and communicated effectively. Manage the review and approval of contractor RAMS, and oversee the issuance of permits to work for major projects. Deliver engaging safety and health training and awareness programmes across all levels of the business. Promote a strong behavioural safety culture and support continuous improvement initiatives. Quality Maintain and improve the organisation’s Quality Management System (QMS) aligned with ISO 9001. Monitor and enhance process and product quality across operations. Lead investigations into customer complaints, ensuring effective root cause analysis and corrective actions. Manage and coordinate internal and external quality audits to maintain certification and drive best practice. Environment Oversee the Environmental Management System in line with ISO 14001. Ensure ongoing compliance with environmental legislation and regulatory obligations. Implement sustainability initiatives focused on reducing waste, energy consumption, and environmental impact. Promote environmental awareness and best practice across all departments and functions. Leadership & Management Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day support to local SHEQ representatives and site teams. Work closely with senior and site management to align SHEQ objectives with operational goals. Report regularly to the executive team, providing data-driven insights and updates on performance and compliance. Serve as the primary liaison for regulatory authorities, auditors, insurers, and other external stakeholders. Keep abreast of emerging legislation, industry standards, and process innovations. Training & Development Design and deliver in-house training initiatives to develop safety awareness and quality ownership. Mentor and support the development of site-level SHEQ personnel. Maintain accurate records for compliance, audit readiness, and reporting purposes. Candidate Profile Qualifications & Experience NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent (highly desirable) Lead Auditor certification in ISO 9001 and/or ISO 14001/45001. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior SHEQ role within a manufacturing, engineering, or industrial environment. In-depth knowledge of ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001) and Integrated Management Systems (IMS). Strong understanding of UK safety, health, and environmental legislation and best practice.
