A well-established advanced manufacturing business is seeking a Materials Testing Technician to join its expanding Quality Laboratory team. This is a hands-on role supporting the preparation and testing of advanced composite materials used in high-performance engineering applications. You'll receive full training across laminating, sample preparation and mechanical testing while supporting quality control and batch release activities.
Applications are welcomed from experienced engineering/manufacturing technicians, as well as recent BSc graduates in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or a related STEM discipline with a practical, hands-on approach and an interest in materials testing.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare composite material test panels through laminating and curing processes.
- Carry out mechanical testing using specialist laboratory equipment (full training provided).
- Prepare test specimens and samples to internal and customer specifications.
- Record accurate test results and maintain full product traceability.
- Support quality control and batch release testing activities.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of internal testing procedures.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure work areas remain clean, organised and safe.
- Work in accordance with BS EN 9100, ISO 14001 and Health & Safety procedures.
- Support continuous improvement activities within the laboratory.
Requirements:
- Previous experience within an engineering, manufacturing or technical environment.
- Hands-on approach with an interest in mechanical equipment and testing.
- Mechanical engineering knowledge would be advantageous.
- Candidates from machining, machine tools, workshop, manufacturing or laboratory environments are encouraged to apply.
- Mechanical testing experience would be beneficial.
- Composites experience is advantageous but not essential.
- ONC / OND / HNC in Engineering would be beneficial.
- A BSc in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Engineering will also be considered.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow detailed procedures.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office and recording accurate test data.
- GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent).
- Able to work effectively as part of a team and independently once trained.
