Health & Safety Manager Contract Opportunity – Outside IR35 Day Rate DOE | 6-Month Project (Initial Term) Fully Remote with UK-Wide Travel (Ideally Midlands-based) Are you an experienced Health & Safety professional seeking a high-impact contract assignment within a hazardous materials environment? We are supporting a national fuels and distribution organisation in appointing an experienced Health & Safety Project Lead to deliver a full end-to-end build of a national H&S framework. This is a defined project engagement, operating Outside IR35, suited to an independent contractor who can take ownership and deliver a scalable, compliant and commercially aligned safety management system. This is not a maintenance role. It is a transformation project requiring expertise, pace and autonomy. The Project Brief The organisation operates a UK-wide depot network (c.35 sites) within a hazardous materials setting. The requirement is to design, develop and implement a modern, fit-for-purpose health and safety framework aligned to current UK legislation and industry best practice. The successful contractor will act as the subject matter expert, partnering with operational leadership to embed robust governance, risk management and cultural improvement across the network. Scope of Work Conduct a gap analysis of existing health and safety arrangements Design and implement a national H&S strategy aligned to hazardous materials operations Develop policies, procedures and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) from first principles Establish risk assessment frameworks and incident investigation protocols Implement reporting structures, KPIs and audit programmes Provide expert advisory support to senior operational stakeholders Embed a consistent and proactive safety culture across multiple sites Ensure compliance with all relevant UK health and safety legislation and sector-specific requirements Deliverables Fully documented and implemented H&S management system Standardised documentation suite across all operational depots Risk register and compliance framework Audit schedule and reporting structure Recommendations for ongoing governance and continuous improvement Contractor Profile Demonstrable experience delivering H&S transformation projects within high-risk or hazardous materials environments Background within fuels, chemicals, logistics or similar regulated sectors is highly advantageous Strong working knowledge of UK H&S legislation and enforcement expectations NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent Level 6 qualification) Experience operating in a consultancy or contract capacity Confident stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence at senior level Self-directed, commercially aware and delivery-focused Willingness to travel nationally as required Engagement Details Outside IR35 determination Initial 6-month project (with potential extension subject to delivery milestones) Fully remote base with UK-wide travel Day rate dependent on experience Why This Assignment?
