H-Power is a UK-based, AIM-listed clean energy company developing zero-emissions hydrogen power systems.

Using ammonia to produce low-carbon hydrogen at the point of need, and fuel cells to convert it into reliable off-grid power, H-Power provides a practical alternative to fossil fuels across construction, infrastructure, transport and power generation.

Behind the technology is a team driven by a shared purpose: to accelerate the shift away from fossil fuels.

The Role

H-Power is looking for a practical, mechanically minded Development & Test Technician to help build, test and commission its HY-5 ammonia cracker technology.

You’ll working as part of the Development and Verification team, across laboratory, build and test areas assembling and modifying test rigs, running development tests, setting up instrumentation and investigating faults.

The work covers subsystems, reactor assemblies and gas systems, including high-pressure reactor test rigs.

Previous gas or hydrogen experience would be useful but isn’t essential, as full gas-safety and product training will be provided.

Development & Test Technician

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and modify prototype systems, subsystems and laboratory test rigs.
  • Support the commissioning and development testing of the HY-5 ammonia cracker.
  • Assemble and test reactor components, gas systems and associated equipment.
  • Set up instrumentation and data-acquisition equipment.
  • Monitor and record temperature, pressure, flow and gas-leakage data.
  • Identify faults and support root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Accurately record test results, observations and anomalies.
  • Maintain test equipment and contribute to safe systems of work.
  • Support improvements to test methods, equipment and laboratory practices.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, testing, development or laboratory engineering.
  • Experience building, modifying or testing equipment, prototypes or test rigs.
  • A mechanical mindset with practical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable following engineering drawings, procedures and test instructions.
  • Some understanding of pipework, instrumentation, fluid systems or measurement equipment.
  • A methodical, safety-conscious approach with good attention to detail.
  • An apprenticeship, NVQ, BTEC, HNC/HND or equivalent practical engineering experience.
  • Able to travel independently to H-Power’s Dunsfold facility due to its location; access to your own transport is essential.
