We’re excited to be recruiting for an experienced Principal R&D Scientist to join an innovative life sciences team based in Berkshire. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled scientist with hands‑on ELISA experience to take ownership of high-impact research projects and provide technical leadership to a growing R&D function. You’ll lead experimental design, oversee assay development, and support junior scientists in a collaborative and forward‑thinking environment.
As a Principal R&D Scientist, you’ll play a key role in the planning and execution of scientific projects across the ELISA product portfolio. You’ll lead on assay development, troubleshoot technical issues, and drive improvements in processes and performance. With a strong focus on innovation and quality, you’ll also support wider business functions by providing technical expertise and insights.
Key Responsibilities- Design, plan, and conduct laboratory experiments to support product development
- Lead and manage assigned projects with minimal supervision
- Develop and maintain ELISA assays, suggesting improvements where needed
- Analyse, interpret, and present experimental data to internal and external stakeholders
- Provide training, mentoring, and supervision to R&D Technicians
- Support purification and conjugation processes (experience with AKTA systems desirable)
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with other departments on technical matters
- Contribute to ongoing R&D meetings and strategic discussions
- BSc (or higher) in a relevant scientific discipline
- At least 5 years’ experience in an industrial R&D setting
- Proven experience in ELISA design and development
- Skilled in experiment planning, data analysis, and scientific reporting
- Comfortable presenting data to varied audiences
- Experience in mentoring or supervising junior staff
- Knowledge of protein purification and conjugation techniques (desirable)
- Strong problem-solving, time management, and communication skills
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently
