We are seeking an outstanding and dynamic musician to lead and shape our thriving Contemporary Music programme. This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional contemporary music educator, performer and musical leader to inspire young musicians across Cranleigh School and to build on an already vibrant culture of live performance, collaboration and creativity. The successful candidate will be an expert contemporary vocal coach with a passion for pop and musical theatre repertoire, able to work confidently with singers and vocal groups of all abilities — including those who learn aurally rather than through notation. A strong understanding of vocal harmony coaching is essential. Alongside vocal expertise, applicants should be capable instrumental teachers with the ability to deliver engaging and structured one‑to‑one lessons in contemporary music styles. Strong contemporary piano accompaniment skills are essential, and applicants able to teach multiple instruments will be particularly attractive.
Responsibilities
- Lead ensembles and bands.
- Coach performers.
- Organise concerts and showcases.
- Create memorable musical experiences across the School calendar, including Open Mic Nights, House Music Nights, Cranleigh Live!, CP Live!, student gigs, contemporary Chapel services and contemporary showcases.
- Lead contemporary ensembles and bands.
We are looking for someone with energy, creativity and initiative — someone who enjoys creating opportunities for young performers to flourish. A working knowledge of music technology would be advantageous and there may be scope for one‑to‑one Music Technology teaching for the right candidate. We would be delighted to hear from you if you are an inspiring contemporary musician and educator who thrives on performance, collaboration and developing young talent.
Qualifications
- Outstanding contemporary vocal coaching, particularly in pop and musical theatre styles.
- Excellent harmony coaching and ensemble direction skills.
- Confident and engaging one‑to‑one vocal or instrumental teaching.
- Strong contemporary piano accompaniment skills.
- Experience leading bands and contemporary ensembles.
- Highly organised, enthusiastic and collaborative.
- Warmth, ambition and infectious musical energy.
Working Hours
This is a term‑time only position. Normal working hours are Monday to Friday, 11.00am–9.00pm, with some flexibility during the week, subject to timetable and events. There is an expectation to work at least three evenings. The role does not include tutoring responsibilities, boarding duties, sport or games commitments.
