1 to 1 and small group Tutor at Horizons Alternative Provision Academy in Reading

About this Role

Anexciting opportunity to support the most vulnerable learners at both Primaryand Secondary levels, through providing high quality to support pupils who areunable to access full-time education due to Emotional Based School Avoidance(EBSA), medical needs, risk of permanent exclusion, or other reasons requiringalternative provision. The service will provide consistent, high-quality, safe,and timely tuition for pupils experiencing persistent absence or educationalinstability.

Workingwith students on an individual basis and in small groups, you will providepersonalised learning programmes that meet a range of needs, including SpecialEducational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional and Mental Health(SEMH) needs, medical needs and attendance-related barriers. The role is idealfor someone who is passionate about making a difference and supportingvulnerable young people to realise their potential.

About the Role

Key responsibilities include:

• Planning and delivering engaging and personalised learning programmes for individual students and small groups.
• Adapting teaching approaches and resources to meet a wide range of learning needs and abilities.
• Building positive, trusting relationships that support students' emotional wellbeing, confidence and engagement.
• Supporting students to overcome barriers to learning and successfully re-engage with education.
• Monitoring, assessing and recording student progress, attendance and engagement.
• Contributing to individual support plans, review meetings and reintegration programmes.
• Working collaboratively with families, schools and external professionals to support student outcomes.
• Promoting high expectations for behaviour, achievement and personal development.
• Maintaining accurate records and reports.
• Upholding safeguarding responsibilities and promoting the welfare of children and young people at all times. Based on the duties and requirements outlined in 1 to 1 tutor Horizons.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

• Has experience working with children and young people, particularly those facing barriers to education.
• Can build effective relationships with students, families and professionals.
• Demonstrates patience, resilience, empathy and professionalism.
• Has strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Can adapt teaching and support strategies to meet individual needs.
• Understands the importance of safeguarding and inclusion.
• Is organised, flexible and able to work independently.
• Holds QTS or a relevant teaching qualification (desirable but not essential).

AboutHorizons Alternative Provision Academy

HorizonsAlternative Provision Academy is an Alternative Education provision for youngpeople ranging from 5-16 years old. We support learners who have beenpermanently excluded from mainstream settings and provide preventative supportto those who are at risk of permanent exclusion. Additionally, we support thosethat unintentionally exclude themselves from education and children who cannotaccess school for medical reasons. We are a multi-site organisation whichincludes our Primary provisions, based at Great Hollands Primary School inBracknell and College Road in Reading, and Secondary provision, based atCranbury Road in Reading. We have Outreach teams that provide specialistsupport within schools, a tutoring service, offer vocational courses in Hair& Beauty and Multi-skills and run a Hospital Teaching Service based atRoyal Berkshire Hospital who provide education to children on short and longterm stays.
