As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll be at the heart of classroom life. You’ll work closely with teachers to support learning, reinforce understanding, and help students make progress, whether that’s through targeted support, additional explanations, differentiated materials, or careful observation and feedback. Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:
- Supporting classroom teaching by working with individuals and small groups to consolidate learning and build skills.
- Providing targeted interventions for pupils who need extra help—ensuring support is purposeful, well-planned and measurable.
- Using behaviour strategies consistently to maintain a calm, purposeful environment and support positive learning attitudes.
- Preparing and adapting resources, including worksheets, reading materials and learning aids, to match pupils’ needs.
- Supporting access and inclusion, including for pupils with SEND and those who benefit from alternative approaches.
- Supporting safeguarding and wellbeing by noticing concerns early, following procedures and maintaining professional confidentiality.
- Supporting assessment and progress by capturing notes, contributing to feedback, and informing next steps.
- Collaborating with colleagues—building effective working relationships and sharing ideas that improve learning.
You don’t have to have all the answers. What you do need is a willingness to learn, a commitment to pupil progress, and a belief that small, consistent support can make a huge difference.
