Overview
In this role you will cover the family office ecosystem, reporting on investment strategies, governance, and operations for single- and multi-family offices. You will help build and shape Crain’s P&I family office product, setting editorial priorities and voice. You’ll develop a strong source network and produce timely news, analysis, and feature coverage for both Pensions & Investments and the new product. This position blends reporting excellence with editorial product development, offering opportunities to shape newsletters, reports, and events while engaging with a sophisticated readership.

Responsibilities
- Cover family offices and related professionals across the private wealth ecosystem
- Break news and craft enterprise stories on investment strategy, governance, and operating models
- Help build and steer the new family office product, including editorial voice and priorities
- Develop and maintain a strong source network within family offices and related institutions
- Write daily news, analysis, explainers, and longer-form features for P&I and the new product
- Frame stories around audience need and relevance
- Collaborate with editors to grow the product through newsletters, alerts, data coverage, and events
- Attend industry conferences and represent Crain with readers and sources
Key requirements
- Reporting experience in financial journalism, institutional investing, private wealth, family offices, asset management, or alternatives
- Strong news judgment and deadline discipline
- Ability to explain complex investment, financial, and regulatory topics clearly
- Proven source-building skills
- Familiarity with family office investing and operations, private markets, wealth management or institutional portfolios preferred
- Experience contributing to newsletters, special reports, events, data coverage or multimedia products is a plus
- Interest in launching and developing an audience-focused editorial product
- Ability to work collaboratively with editors and colleagues while taking ownership of a high-priority coverage area
