As Deputy Editor, you will guide a digital-first newsroom serving institutional investors and professionals, balancing daily news with enterprise reporting and audience growth. You’ll set priorities, shape coverage, and ensure clarity, ethics, and usefulness for a sophisticated audience. You’ll lead editors and reporters, driving high-impact stories, audience engagement, and editorial innovation. Responsibilities
- Set and prioritize editorial plans across platforms
- Lead reporters covering asset allocators and related topics
- Guide story selection, framing, and execution for timely, differentiated journalism
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, fairness, clarity, ethics, and originality
- Balance breaking news with enterprise, analytical, and investigative reporting
- Frame stories around clear audience needs and practical impact
- Promote interpretation, insight, and decision-support journalism over commodity coverage
- Oversee newsletters, franchises, and editorial products to build reader loyalty
- Collaborate with audience development, product, and marketing to boost engagement and subscriptions
- Identify opportunities to extend audience via newsletters, search, social, events, and emerging platforms
- Lead, coach, and develop reporters and editors; foster accountability and continuous improvement
- Support recruiting, onboarding, and talent development to strengthen newsroom bench
- Ensure journalism demonstrates impact and value to institutional readers
Key requirements
- Degree in journalism, communications, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Significant journalism experience with substantial editing and newsroom leadership
- Familiarity with institutional money management and asset allocators (CIOs to Endowments)
- Strong news judgment and ability to guide high-impact reporting
- Experience managing editors, reporters, or cross-functional teams
- Proven track record of coaching journalists and developing talent
- Strong understanding of audience-led editorial strategy and digital publishing
- Experience using analytics, audience insights, and editorial tools to inform decisions
- Ability to balance breaking news with long-term editorial planning
