We are working with a leading law firm based in Wakefield who are looking to appoint an Assistant Fee Earner - Grade C to join their serious injury team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced legal professional to join an established team handling a complex and varied caseload of claimant serious injury matters.

The successful candidate will support the management of a portfolio of serious injury claims, predominantly involving road traffic accidents. Matters can involve complex issues around liability, causation and quantum, with claim values typically ranging from £200,000 to £1 million.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the lead fee earner with the progression and management of serious injury claims.
  • Taking responsibility for agreed elements of cases and ensuring they progress efficiently.
  • Undertaking chargeable legal work and conducting legal research.
  • Reviewing evidence and assisting with issues relating to liability, causation and quantum.
  • Drafting statements, pleadings, schedules of loss and other legal documentation.
  • Liaising with clients and maintaining regular communication throughout the claim.
  • Working with a range of experts and professionals, including medical experts, case managers, care experts, accountants, architects and counsel.
  • Assisting with interim payments, rehabilitation and settlement negotiations.
  • Maintaining accurate case records and ensuring the case management system is kept up to date.
  • Supporting client meetings, conferences and settlement meetings.
  • Contributing to the development of junior colleagues and the wider team where appropriate.

About you

We are keen to hear from experienced legal professionals with a background in serious injury work. You should have a strong understanding of complex personal injury claims and be comfortable working with clients, experts and other professional stakeholders.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience assisting with or managing serious injury claims.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and organisational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Experience using case management systems and Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • A strong commitment to client care and quality of work.
  • The ability to work effectively in a target-driven environment.
  • A proactive approach, with the confidence to take ownership of your work.
