Role: Adult Social Care Locum Lawyers (2 Roles - Part-Time & Full-Time)

Location: Remote (Sheffield City Council)

Duration: Initial 2-3 months (with potential for extension)

Hours: 18.5 hours (part-time) & 37 hours (full-time)

Rate: Competitive hourly rate (DOE)

CRA Consulting, a specialist legal recruitment agency, is working in partnership with Sheffield City Council to recruit two experienced Adult Social Care Lawyers on a locum basis. These roles offer the flexibility of remote working while providing vital legal support to a busy in-house legal team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert legal advice to Adult Social Care services within the Council, with a focus on safeguarding, mental capacity, and best interest decisions.
  • Handle a varied caseload of complex legal matters relating to the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Court of Protection, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).
  • Represent the Council in court proceedings, tribunal hearings, and case conferences.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents such as care agreements, legal notices, and court applications.
  • Advise on risk management and support social care professionals with legal training and best practice guidance.
  • Liaise effectively with internal departments, external stakeholders, and multi-agency partners.
Key Requirements
  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a valid practising certificate.
  • Demonstrable experience in adult social care law, ideally gained in a local authority or public sector setting.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation including the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, and DoLS frameworks.
  • Excellent advocacy and case management skills, with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of building professional relationships across teams and with service users.
