  • Role: Adult Social Care Locum Lawyer
  • Location: South Tyneside (Hybrid Working)
  • Rate: £55 - £65 per hour (Umbrella)
  • Contract: Initial 6 Month Assignment
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Working Pattern: Full Time (37 Hours per Week)
  • Office Attendance: Typically 1 day per week plus court, hearings and key meetings as required

The Opportunity

CRA Consulting is delighted to be working in partnership with South Tyneside Council to recruit an experienced Adult Social Care Locum Lawyer for an immediate start assignment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected Legal Services team and play a key role in supporting some of the Council's most important and sensitive Adult Social Care matters. The successful candidate will provide expert legal advice to Adult Social Care teams, senior officers and stakeholders, helping to safeguard vulnerable adults and deliver positive outcomes across the borough. The role offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement, an interesting and varied caseload and the opportunity to work within a supportive and collaborative legal team.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Managing a complex caseload of Adult Social Care matters.
  • Providing specialist legal advice to Adult Social Care services and senior stakeholders.
  • Advising on matters relating to the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Court of Protection and safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Conducting and managing Court of Protection applications and related proceedings.
  • Drafting legal documents, applications, witness statements and legal advice.
  • Representing the Council at hearings, meetings, panels and stakeholder forums where required.
  • Advising on legal risk, governance and statutory obligations.
  • Supporting colleagues across the Legal Services team on complex legal issues.
  • Building strong working relationships with client departments and external partners.

What They're Looking For

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (FCILEX).
  • Significant experience handling Adult Social Care matters within a Local Authority environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of: Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Court of Protection Proceedings, Safeguarding Adults, Human Rights and Community Care Law.
  • Previous experience providing advice to senior officers and stakeholders.
  • Excellent drafting, advocacy and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage a busy caseload with minimal supervision.
  • Previous Local Government experience is essential.
