Job Summary:
β’ A reliable and organised Admin/Reception Assistant is required to provide short-term front-facing support within a nursery or early years setting.
β’ The role involves carrying out general administrative duties, managing reception tasks, and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for children, staff, and visitors.
β’ This is a temporary assignment ideal for individuals with experience in administration and a background or interest in early years or education support.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
β’ Provide reception cover, greeting parents, carers, children, and visitors in a professional and friendly manner.
β’ Support day-to-day administrative functions including data entry, record keeping, filing, and handling phone and email enquiries.
β’ Assist staff with scheduling appointments and managing attendance registers.
β’ Maintain accurate records and ensure documentation is filed securely and in line with data protection policies.
β’ Ensure safeguarding protocols are followed when managing visitor access and sign-in procedures.
β’ Support nursery staff with the preparation of materials, communication with families, and general administrative tasks.
β’ Monitor supplies and report any shortfalls in stationery or equipment to the appropriate team.
β’ Respond to routine queries from parents or carers, escalating more complex issues where necessary.
β’ Contribute to a positive and efficient working environment within the nursery/reception area.
Skills/Experience:
β’ Previous experience in an administrative or receptionist role, preferably in an educational, childcare, or care setting.
β’ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
β’ Confident using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other administrative systems.
β’ Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and work independently.
β’ Understanding of safeguarding procedures, particularly in a setting with children or vulnerable individuals.
β’ Friendly and approachable manner with a customer-service mindset.
β’ Basic knowledge of First Aid (desirable).
β’ Ability to remain calm and professional in a busy or sensitive environment.
