2-3 months contract with a Local Authority Job Summary:
β’ This role focuses on supporting vulnerable children, young people (primarily aged 10+), and their families through early help and intervention services.
β’ Working within a multi-agency, trauma-informed, and strength-based framework, the postholder will engage in direct work with families, build support plans, deliver brief interventions, and coordinate services to reduce risk and improve outcomes.
β’ The role requires the ability to manage a caseload, lead specific initiatives, and support team development in a fast-paced and emotionally demanding environment.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample): β’ Provide direct support through one-to-one sessions, group work, and crisis interventions, including Return Home Interviews and context-based planning.
β’ Engage in early help, child in need, NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training), and homelessness cases, using a Team Around the Family (TAF) approach.
β’ Support the development and delivery of packages for children with emerging or acute mental health needs and complex additional needs.
β’ Build positive relationships with families and children, encouraging resilience, independence, and self-directed solutions.
β’ Maintain accurate and timely case notes, assessments, reports, and plans in line with safeguarding procedures and case management policies.
β’ Collaborate with internal teams, schools, health professionals, police, and voluntary sector organisations to deliver coordinated support.
β’ Contribute to service development initiatives, group programme design, and staff mentoring.
β’ Act as deputy to the Team Manager when required, supporting operational decisions and overseeing complex or high-risk cases.
β’ Participate in reflective supervision and ensure compliance with all health, safety, and safeguarding policies.
Skills/Experience: β’ Demonstrable experience working with vulnerable children, adolescents and their families in either a paid or voluntary capacity.
β’ Ability to deliver trauma-informed, strengths-based, and motivational interview techniques.
β’ Skilled in working within multi-agency frameworks, including risk assessment and management.
β’ Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to record assessments and communicate effectively with professionals and service users.
β’ Proficient in planning and prioritising work within demanding caseloads.
β’ Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and early help principles.
β’ Experience supporting NEET or homeless young people and those with SEND (up to age 25).
