3 Month Contract With A Local Authority

Job Purpose

The MASH (Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub) Decision Maker plays a key role in ensuring that children and families receive the right level of intervention and support. The postholder will assess and triage referrals, determine thresholds for statutory social care involvement, and provide professional guidance to MASH Officers and partner agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Triaging incoming referrals and determining the appropriate level of response.
  • Undertaking MASH enquiries and reviewing multi-agency information.
  • Speaking with parents, carers, and partner agencies to clarify information.
  • Making threshold recommendations regarding Early Help, Child in Need, or Child Protection.
  • Providing professional oversight and direction to MASH Officers (call handlers).
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external partners to ensure timely and effective safeguarding decisions.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely recording of all decisions and rationales in line with policy and procedures.

Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
  • Proven experience in Children’s Social Care and Child Protection decision-making.
  • Strong understanding of statutory thresholds, safeguarding procedures, and relevant legislation.
  • Ability to analyse complex information quickly and make sound, evidence-based decisions.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and partnership working skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-agency environment.
