Job Description
The SENDIST Appeals Manager will be responsible for leading and managing the Council’s parental appeals to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST). This includes coordinating the process, procedures, and data linked to the appeals, case managing individual appeals, providing expert advice to the Council and SEND Officers, and representing the Local Authority at appeal hearings.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the appeals process for the SEND Service to SENDIST.
- Work collaboratively with SEND Officers and manage queries related to Tribunal processes.
- Develop policies, procedures, and systems related to complaints, disputes, and appeals.
- Undertake appeals, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, and represent the Local Authority at hearings.
- Make decisions on behalf of the Local Authority regarding appeals and complaints.
- Mediate with parents and legal representatives to resolve issues without formal Tribunal proceedings.
Essential Experience and Qualifications
- Significant experience with SEN Appeals and Tribunals.
- Experience working under pressure and managing multiple priorities.
- Experience working with education settings, parents, and young people.
- Legal experience or relevant legal qualification, or substantial relevant SEN experience.
- Degree-level education or equivalent, or at least three years of experience in SEND.
- HCPC Registration.
- Enhanced DBS and barred list check (Child & Adult).
