Summary

This role involves executing various aspects of practical amenity horticulture to the highest standards, as outlined by the Grounds Maintenance Specification and client requirements. The position is crucial for maintaining the aesthetic and functional quality of outdoor spaces, ensuring they meet specified horticultural standards. The role requires a blend of technical skills, safety compliance, and teamwork to effectively manage and enhance green spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Perform grass cutting, strimming, hedge trimming, and leaf and litter clearing.
  • Plant bedding plants, trees, and shrubs, and maintain shrub beds through pruning and division.
  • Apply chemicals as needed for maintenance.
  • Set up and maintain sports facilities, including marking and layout.
  • Conduct general soft landscaping tasks such as top-soiling, cultivation, and seeding.
  • Operate and maintain vehicles, plant, and machinery, ensuring compliance with Health and Safety regulations.
  • Report any defects in tools and equipment to the line manager.
  • Ensure personal and team safety, comply with health and safety duties, and report incidents or accidents.

Requirements

  • NVQ Stage 1 in Horticulture or a minimum of two years\’ practical experience in grounds maintenance.
  • Possession of a current, full UK driving license.
  • Spraying certificate.
  • Knowledge of mechanical plant/equipment maintenance.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety at Work Regulations.
  • Experience in practical horticulture, including grass cutting and machinery use.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Willingness to undertake further training and learn new skills.
  • Punctuality, reliability, and a positive attitude.
  • Physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in various conditions.
  • Flexibility to work in different locations within the city and availability for overtime if necessary.
  • Knowledge of plant identification and disorders.
  • Experience in soft landscaping work.
  • Experience with mowing equipment and small plant machinery.
  • Encourage and support team members, providing guidance and advice.
