Job Summary:

β€’ An experienced and reliable HGV Waste Collection Driver is required on a temporary basis to support waste and recycling services during a period of annual leave cover.

β€’ The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy goods vehicles, supervising a small team, and delivering essential waste collection services to the community.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):

β€’ Drive HGV vehicles for domestic, food, trade, bulky waste, and recycling collections.

β€’ Supervise a small team of loaders or drivers during rounds.

β€’ Operate manual and automatic refuse and recycling equipment.

β€’ Collect, sort, and load items including paper, glass, cans, textiles, etc.

β€’ Deliver leaflets, bins, caddies, sacks, and containers to households.

β€’ Conduct daily vehicle checks and report defects to Fleet Management.

β€’ Ensure vehicle cleanliness (interior and exterior) is maintained to a high standard.

β€’ Use in-cab technology to support efficient route completion.

β€’ Provide polite and professional interaction with members of the public.

β€’ Work in all weather conditions and complete rounds before finishing for the day.

β€’ Assist with other cleansing or transfer station duties if required.

β€’ Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including safe reversing procedures.

β€’ Work bank holidays (excluding Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day).

β€’ Comply with all relevant driving legislation including tachograph usage.

Skills/Experience:

β€’ Experience operating HGV vehicles in waste or recycling services.

β€’ Ability to supervise and lead a small operational team.

β€’ Knowledge of vehicle safety checks and reporting procedures.

β€’ Experience with in-cab route/collection systems is desirable.

β€’ Good communication and customer service skills.

β€’ High level of physical fitness – able to work outdoors in all weather.

β€’ Awareness of health and safety requirements in a driving and waste environment.

β€’ Understanding of tachograph use and driving regulations.
