CRA Consulting

CRA Consulting is delighted to be working in partnership with a respected and expanding regional law firm to recruit a Contentious Probate & Civil Litigation Solicitor.

Due to continued growth within its Private Client and Litigation teams, the firm is looking to appoint a solicitor with around 1–3 years’ PQE who is keen to develop their expertise in contentious probate while gaining exposure to a broad range of civil litigation matters.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive, collaborative team where you’ll benefit from hands‑on responsibility, high‑quality work, and genuine opportunities for long‑term career progression. As the department continues to grow, you’ll also have the chance to play an active role in shaping and developing the firm’s contentious probate offering.

The Role

You will manage your own caseload of contentious probate and related civil litigation matters from initial instruction through to conclusion, working closely with experienced colleagues on more complex or high‑value disputes when required.

The role offers an excellent balance of autonomy and support, making it ideal for someone looking to broaden their technical expertise while building strong client relationships.

Typical Caseload

Your work will include a varied mix of disputes, including:

  • Will validity and probate disputes
  • Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act claims
  • Executor and trustee disputes
  • TOLATA (Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996) claims
  • Other general civil litigation matters where appropriate

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload of contentious probate and civil litigation matters from instruction to resolution.
  • Draft legal documents, pleadings, witness statements, and correspondence.
  • Provide clear, practical, and commercially focussed advice to clients.
  • Conduct negotiations and pursue alternative dispute resolution where appropriate.
  • Handle TOLATA disputes involving beneficial ownership, property sales, and occupation rights.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through exceptional levels of service.
  • Ensure files are managed efficiently and in accordance with regulatory and compliance requirements.

About You

To be considered for this opportunity, you will:

  • Be a qualified Solicitor in England & Wales with approximately 1–3 years’ post‑qualification experience.
  • Have experience handling contentious probate and civil litigation matters.
  • Ideally have exposure to TOLATA claims, although this is not essential.
  • Be a confident communicator with excellent drafting and client‑facing skills.
  • Possess strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload effectively.
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness and a pragmatic approach to resolving disputes.
  • Be able to handle sensitive and emotionally challenging matters with empathy, professionalism, and sound judgement.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious solicitor looking to develop their career within a growing practice that values collaboration, professional development, and delivering exceptional client service.
