CRA Consulting

CRA Consulting is pleased to be partnering with a progressive regional law firm in the appointment of a Contentious Probate & Civil Litigation Solicitor to join its growing disputes team.

As the firm’s contentious probate practice continues to expand, an opportunity has arisen for a solicitor with approximately 1-3 years’ PQE to work across a varied caseload of inheritance disputes and wider civil litigation matters. This role offers excellent exposure to high-quality work, close collaboration with experienced lawyers and genuine scope to develop a specialist practice within an ambitious and supportive firm.

This is an ideal position for someone looking to take the next step in their litigation career, combining responsibility for their own files with ongoing mentoring and involvement in more complex, high-value disputes.

The Opportunity

You’ll take ownership of a diverse caseload from instruction through to conclusion, advising individuals, executors, trustees and beneficiaries on a range of contentious estate and property disputes. Alongside this, you’ll gain exposure to broader civil litigation matters, allowing you to build a well-rounded disputes practice.

As the department continues to grow, you’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the firm’s contentious probate offering and establish yourself within this increasingly busy area of practice.

Typical Matters

Your caseload is likely to include:

  • Disputes concerning the validity of wills.
  • Claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975.
  • Executor and trustee disputes.
  • TOLATA claims involving beneficial ownership and property interests.
  • A range of general civil and commercial litigation matters.

Responsibilities

  • Managing a varied caseload of contentious probate and civil litigation files with minimal supervision.
  • Advising clients on complex and often sensitive disputes in a clear, practical and commercially focused manner.
  • Preparing pleadings, witness statements, court documents and legal correspondence.
  • Negotiating settlements and exploring alternative dispute resolution wherever appropriate.
  • Representing clients throughout the litigation process, ensuring matters are progressed efficiently and proactively.
  • Building strong and lasting client relationships through an excellent standard of service.
  • Maintaining accurate case management records and ensuring compliance with regulatory and procedural requirements.
  • Supporting the continued growth and reputation of the department.

About You

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a qualified Solicitor in England & Wales with around 1-3 years’ PQE.
  • Have experience handling contentious probate matters and general civil litigation.
  • Ideally have some exposure to TOLATA disputes, although this is by no means essential.
  • Be confident managing client relationships and delivering practical legal advice.
  • Demonstrate strong drafting, negotiation and case management skills.
  • Have excellent organisational abilities and be comfortable managing competing priorities.
  • Approach sensitive disputes with professionalism, empathy and sound judgement.
  • Be keen to continue developing technically within a collaborative and supportive team environment.

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
  • High-quality contentious probate and civil litigation work.
  • Clear opportunities for progression within an expanding department.
  • Ongoing mentoring and technical development from experienced litigators.
  • A supportive and collaborative culture where career development is actively encouraged.
  • The opportunity to play a meaningful role in the continued growth of the firm’s contentious probate practice.
