CRA Consulting is delighted to be working in partnership with a Local Authority who are seeking an experienced

Adult Social Care Lawyer to join their legal services team on an

8-month locum contract .

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Adult Social Care Lawyer to provide high-quality legal advice and support on a varied and complex caseload, working alongside an experienced local authority legal team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing their own caseload and undertaking advocacy where required, providing practical and solution-focused legal advice on matters relating to adult social care and public law.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a varied caseload of Adult Social Care matters from instruction through to completion.
  • Handling Court of Protection welfare proceedings, Mental Capacity Act 2005 matters, Section 21A challenges, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (Do LS), and inherent jurisdiction applications.
  • Advising on adult safeguarding matters, community care issues, ordinary residence disputes, and Inquests.
  • Providing legal advice in relation to duties and responsibilities under the Care Act 2014.
  • Advising on assessments, care and support planning, best interests decision‑making, and transitions from children’s to adult services.
  • Supporting social workers, managers, and senior officers with timely and practical legal guidance.
  • Attending safeguarding meetings, operational meetings, and providing duty lawyer support during normal working hours.
  • Undertaking advocacy, including Court of Protection advocacy where required.

Requirements

  • Previous local authority Adult Social Care legal experience is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Court of Protection procedures, and the Care Act 2014.
  • Ability to manage a busy caseload with minimal supervision.
  • Experience conducting advocacy is highly desirable.
  • Confident working within a fast-paced public sector environment.
