About the Role
We are seeking a qualified and motivated Civil Litigation Lawyer to join a well-established in-house legal team within a leading Local Authority. This is an excellent opportunity to undertake a varied and stimulating caseload while supporting key client departments, including Housing, in delivering their objectives. The role involves handling a broad range of civil litigation matters, ensuring claims are managed efficiently and fairly, while balancing the needs of the Council and its service users.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a diverse caseload of civil litigation matters from instruction through to conclusion
- Advising client departments on legal risks, strategy, and dispute resolution
- Conducting advocacy in court and, where appropriate, tribunal settings
- Handling matters including:
- Disrepair claims and associated defences
- Applications for court injunctions, including access to property
- Debt recovery and enforcement proceedings
- General civil litigation matters affecting the Authority
- Drafting pleadings, witness statements, and legal correspondence
- Working collaboratively with colleagues to deliver a high-quality legal service
About You
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with full practising rights
- Experience in civil litigation
- Advocacy experience in court (tribunal advocacy desirable)
- Enthusiastic, flexible, and a strong team player
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Hardworking, with strong organisational and case management skills
