CRA Consulting are currently working with an established and highly regarded law firm in York, who are looking to appoint an experienced Wills & Probate Locum to join their Private Client team on an initial 9-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Private Client professional looking for a longer-term locum assignment with a well-established legal team. The role offers hybrid working, providing flexibility alongside the opportunity to work within an established office-based environment.
The Role
The successful candidate will join the firm's Private Client team and take responsibility for managing a varied caseload of Wills and Probate matters. You will be expected to take ownership of your caseload, progress matters efficiently and provide a high level of service to clients throughout the lifetime of each matter. Your workload is likely to include:
- Drafting and advising on Wills
- Probate and Estate Administration
- Grant of Probate applications
- Lasting Powers of Attorney
- Trusts and estate planning
- Inheritance and succession planning
- Dealing with executors, beneficiaries and other third parties
- Managing client enquiries and providing clear legal advice
- Drafting correspondence and legal documentation
- Liaising with HMRC, Probate Registry and other relevant organisations
- Progressing matters through to completion
- Managing deadlines and maintaining accurate case records
- Working closely with colleagues across the wider Private Client team
The successful candidate will be comfortable managing their own caseload with minimal supervision and able to step into an existing workload and make an immediate contribution.

You will ideally have strong experience across Wills, Probate and Estate Administration and be confident dealing directly with clients. Previous locum experience would be advantageous, although candidates currently working in Private Client who are considering a move into the locum market will also be considered. The ability to work autonomously, prioritise a busy caseload and maintain excellent client service will be essential.
