Role Overview:
As a Wills & Probate Lawyer, you will be responsible for managing a varied caseload of private client matters, providing high-quality legal advice and supporting clients through what can often be complex and sensitive circumstances.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced private client professional looking to join an established team and play an important role in the continued development of the department.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Department and will have the opportunity to take on some of the day-to-day people management responsibilities in their absence. Previous experience of supervising or managing a team would be advantageous, although this is not essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage a varied caseload of Wills and Probate matters from initial instruction through to completion.
  • Advise clients on Wills, estate planning, probate and estate administration matters.
  • Prepare and draft Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and other private client documentation.
  • Deal with applications for Grants of Probate and Letters of Administration.
  • Manage the administration of estates, including gathering assets, settling liabilities and distributing estates to beneficiaries.
  • Liaise with executors, beneficiaries, financial institutions, HMRC and other professional advisers throughout the estate administration process.
  • Provide clear, practical and empathetic legal advice to clients, ensuring a high level of client care at all times.
  • Undertake legal research and ensure all work complies with current legislation, regulations and professional requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, colleagues and external contacts.
  • Support the Head of Department with the day-to-day running of the team and provide guidance and support to more junior members of staff where required.
  • Utilise case management systems and technology effectively to maintain an efficient and well-organised caseload.

About You:

  • A proven ability to manage a diverse Wills and Probate/private client caseload with minimal supervision.
  • Strong technical knowledge across Wills, Probate and Estate Administration.
  • Excellent client-care skills, with the ability to deal sensitively and professionally with clients during difficult circumstances.
  • Exceptional communication skills, organisational ability and attention to detail.
  • A positive, client-focused approach with the ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships.
  • The confidence to work closely with the Head of Department and provide support to junior members of the team.
  • Previous experience of supervising or managing staff would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development.
