Freelance Construction Manager - MOJ Office Fit-Out

Location: Reading, Berkshire

Contract Type: Freelance

A multi award-winning main contractor is seeking an experienced Freelance Construction Manager to oversee the delivery of a major nine-month Ministry of Justice office fit-out project in Reading. Working closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team, you will take responsibility for coordinating site operations, managing subcontractors and ensuring the project is completed safely, on programme, within budget and to the highest quality standards. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded main contractor with a strong pipeline of future projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Taking overall responsibility for day-to-day construction activities
  • Managing and coordinating Site Managers, subcontractors and specialist trades
  • Developing, monitoring and driving the construction programme
  • Planning labour, materials, logistics and sequencing of works
  • Ensuring works are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications and contractual requirements
  • Maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and environmental compliance
  • Reviewing RAMS and ensuring safe systems of work are implemented
  • Leading subcontractor, progress and coordination meetings
  • Monitoring workmanship and managing quality assurance procedures
  • Liaising with the client, consultants, design team and supply chain
  • Maintaining accurate progress reports, site records and project documentation
  • Ensuring all site activities comply with the requirements of a secure MOJ environment

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid SMSTS
  • Appropriate CSCS Management Card, ideally a Black Manager Card
  • Valid First Aid at Work
  • Extensive Construction Manager experience with a recognised main contractor
  • Proven experience delivering commercial office fit-out or refurbishment projects
  • Strong knowledge of construction programmes, sequencing and site logistics
  • Excellent understanding of health and safety legislation
  • Experience managing multiple subcontractors and specialist packages
  • Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage quality, programme and subcontractor performance
