Our wonderful team of volunteers inspire people to care for the countryside and enjoy the benefits it brings wherever they live. Volunteering with us is a fantastic way to help us champion environmental issues such as the climate emergency, renewable energy, biodiversity and sustainable transport. Our volunteers research possible sources of funding and even write applications to trusts and funds. Our friendly team will provide you with training and support to develop in your role and you’ll gain valuable skills and experience.

Why we want you: By volunteering with us you’ll be helping to find positive solutions for the issues facing the countryside and the environment. By applying your skills and experience you can make a real difference and be a central part of a friendly and passionate charity.
As a bid-writing volunteer, you’ll be investigating possible sources of funding and writing fundraising bids. You’ll also manage relationships with funding bodies and charitable trusts. We’re ideally looking for volunteers with experience in writing funding bids and an interest in environmental and countryside issues.
What you will be doing:
- Researching and identifying funding bodies with potential to benefit our charity
- Coordinating, writing and submitting funding bids
- Developing relationships with existing and potential funders
- Stewarding donors and writing thank you letters
- Contacting trusts and foundations on the phone
- Maintaining a database of funding trusts and foundations
- Regular reporting to the board of trustees
- Keeping up to date with developments in the funding sector
- Liaising with the fundraising team national CPRE
- You may be occasionally asked to attend committee meetings as part of this role
The skills you need:
- An interest in countryside and environmental issues
- Some knowledge of charity funding and experience of writing successful funding bids
- An understanding of donor requirements and how to demonstrate these in applications
- Excellent written communication skills
- An organised and self-motivated personality
- Happy to carry out tasks independently and as part of a team
- Access to a computer and the internet at home and be comfortable using them
- Be able to commit to volunteering regularly to suit your availability with occasional attendance at meetings
