We're working with a major client delivering Britain's high-speed rail infrastructure programme, and we're recruiting a Senior Project Engineer to provide technical support and coordination on MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) and Buildings delivery for the Depot project.

This is a senior technical role supporting the Lead Project Engineer in ensuring that the depot buildings and MEP systems are designed, built and handed over to operations safely and on specification. You'll work at the heart of depot systems integration, managing the technical coordination between MEP and building contractors and ensuring these systems work reliably to support operational needs.

You'll combine deep technical experience of building systems, mechanical, electrical and plumbing infrastructure with the ability to work across complex interfaces. You'll support the coordination of assurance activities, manage configuration and information flow, and translate complex building and MEP challenges into clear engineering solutions. Your work ensures the depot buildings and systems meet all regulatory, operational and integration requirements.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Support the coordination of technical assurance of MEP systems and building design, construction and commissioning against client requirements and standards
  • Support the Lead Project Engineer in discharging NEC Supervisor and Principal Designer Representative duties under CDM 2015
  • Coordinate the acceptance of MEP and building design, construction and commissioning to ensure compliance with technical, sponsor and regulatory requirements before handover to operations
  • Manage technical coordination and integration between MEP and building contractors and other interfacing depot systems
  • Provide technical guidance on building and MEP design solutions, promoting best practice engineering techniques that drive consistency and efficiency
  • Work with technical specialists to develop cost-balanced mitigation strategies on building and MEP issues
  • Manage interface tools and processes to ensure MEP systems and buildings integrate effectively with neighbouring depot infrastructure
  • Support the management and communication of engineering issues and changes affecting MEP and building delivery
  • Oversee identification and communication of technical risks and assumptions across MEP and building design activities
  • Support internal and external reporting on technical progress and risk management for depot buildings and systems

What We're Looking For

You're a senior engineer or Design Manager with substantial hands-on experience of MEP systems and building infrastructure. You have direct design, specification and engineering experience with mechanical, electrical, plumbing and building systems and understand how they're designed, integrated and built.

You understand how MEP and building systems interface with rail infrastructure and other depot systems and have managed the coordination between multiple engineering disciplines. You understand CDM 2015 and have supported or undertaken Principal Designer and Designer duties on complex projects. You've worked with NEC contracts and understand supervision responsibilities. You've managed competing project and engineering demands with cost and schedule implications. You're comfortable with digital engineering tools and building information management systems.

You can identify technical risks in MEP and building design quickly and communicate them clearly to contractors and internal stakeholders. You're pragmatic about balancing design rigour with delivery timescales. You understand what it takes to deliver depot buildings and systems safely and ensure they function reliably for operational use.
