I'm seeking an Infrastructure Environment Manager to play a direct part in making sure one of the largest infrastructure programmes in the UK is designed and built in genuine compliance with its environmental commitments. This is not a monitoring role. Your day-to-day purpose is to assure that contractors are working to the environmental standards that govern the programme, to guide design teams on environmental constraints and solutions, and to identify issues early enough that they can be resolved without becoming problems. You will review and check assurance evidence as it moves through technical stage gates, and you will assess whether contractor designs and construction works are consistent with the applicable environmental minimum requirements, legislation and regulations. Where there are gaps or departures, you will communicate them clearly and work with the relevant parties to close them out. You will provide guidance on environmental design solutions across the asset scope, making sure that environmental considerations are built into project design from the outset rather than addressed retrospectively. The role involves active engagement with contractors and technical stakeholders across local, regional and national forums, and with the communities affected by the work. You will support internal and external reporting on environmental matters and work alongside colleagues in other technical disciplines to develop mitigation strategies that are both appropriate and cost-considered. What you need to bring Your background is in environmental management on large, complex infrastructure or construction programmes. You will have direct experience of managing environmental compliance across a major programme, where competing demands from engineering, programme and cost were part of daily working life. You will be familiar with applicable UK environmental law, CDM regulations and the legislative and regulatory framework that governs this type of work. You will be able to communicate technical environmental principles clearly to colleagues across a range of disciplines, and you will know how to apply judgement when options need to be weighed and decisions need to be made. Commercial awareness, including an understanding of cost and schedule pressures and the need to reach integrated solutions, is also important. Membership of a relevant professional institution, or equivalent experience, is expected. Based in Milton Keynes, a major railway hub, imbedded within a project team, overseeing a section of a new railway. Useful to have Experience on HS2 or a comparable major infrastructure programme. A background that has taken you across more than one phase of a programme lifecycle, from design development through to construction delivery and assurance. Familiarity with data management principles and their application to environmental information on complex programmes. Experience of working across matrix organisations where delivery and function sit in separate parts of the business
