A major UK rail infrastructure programme is seeking a Senior Security Systems Engineer to support the definition, integration and technical assurance of physical security systems across a large, complex railway environment. The role sits within a central systems engineering function acting as the Design Authority. It is a technical role rather than a line management position, working alongside other senior engineers and specialists across multiple disciplines.
The focus of the role is the development and assurance of route wide physical security systems, including Video Surveillance Systems, Access Control Systems (ACS), Intruder Detection Systems (IDS), Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS) and Physical Security Information Management (PSIM). Responsibilities span standards, technical requirements, specifications, system architecture and works information, with involvement through both design and construction phases.
Key Responsibilities- Developing and assuring technical standards, requirements and specifications for physical security systems
- Defining system integration and interface requirements across multiple work packages and third party systems
- Coordinating with other engineering disciplines to ensure security systems are integrated into the wider railway system
- Providing technical assurance that designs and constructed assets meet programme and operational requirements
- Supporting risk management, issue resolution and technical governance decision making
- Managing and directing professional services consultants contributing to security systems work
- Supporting project delivery through design and construction, ensuring systems from multiple suppliers are correctly integrated and function as a coherent whole
The role operates in a complex and evolving programme environment and requires strong stakeholder management skills, with regular engagement across designers, contractors, suppliers and client teams. The post holder will play a key role in assuring that disparate security systems are properly interfaced, interoperable and aligned to operational requirements, while influencing whole life cost and system performance through robust technical definition and assurance.
Experience Sought- Strong background in physical security systems design and integration
- Experience delivering security systems within complex infrastructure or large built environment projects
- Knowledge of Video Surveillance, ACS, IDS, PIDS and PSIM platforms
- Experience of managing interfaces between multiple suppliers and technologies
- Proven ability to operate as a technical authority within multi discipline engineering teams
- Experience providing technical assurance, governance input and stakeholder confidence
