A Central London Local Authority is seeking an experienced Interim Health & Safety Lead to provide senior-level capacity during a critical period of Health & Safety improvement. This is a high-profile, strategic interim assignment focused on stabilising current activity, progressing key Health & Safety priorities, and establishing robust frameworks for future delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish a clear baseline of Health & Safety maturity across the Council
- Progress priority improvements aligned to an ISO 45001-style management system
- Strengthen consistency, visibility and engagement across services and Directorates
- Develop practical Health & Safety frameworks, tools and governance arrangements
- Create a structured handover and implementation roadmap for permanent postholders
- Support senior leaders in driving compliance and continuous improvement
About You
- Significant senior Health & Safety leadership experience within large, complex organisations
- Proven experience designing, reviewing or implementing ISO 45001-aligned management systems
- Strong track record of improving Health & Safety management frameworks and processes
- Experience influencing senior stakeholders and driving engagement without formal authority
- Ability to deliver results quickly within a time-limited interim assignment
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and facilitation skills
- Methodical approach to documentation, governance and handover planning
- Public sector or local government experience is highly desirable
