A Local Authority in East London is seeking an experienced Housing Appeals Officer to join their Housing team on an interim basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a housing professional with strong homelessness and appeals experience to play a key role in delivering fair, lawful and high-quality housing decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct reviews on the suitability of accommodation offered to homeless households in line with statutory duties under the Homelessness Reduction Act.
- Review homelessness application decisions and housing register appeals.
- Manage appeals relating to council tenancies, including fixed-term tenancy reviews and introductory tenancy reviews.
- Prepare detailed, high-quality case reports and decision letters.
- Defend legal challenges relating to homelessness and allocations decisions.
- Ensure all decisions are legally compliant and in line with current legislation, guidance and case law.
Requirements
- Previous experience working within Housing Appeals or Housing Reviews in a Local Authority setting.
- Extensive experience handling complex homelessness casework and report writing.
- Strong knowledge of: Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Homelessness Code of Guidance, Localism Act 2011, Housing Act 1985, Landlord's legislation.
