A Local Authority is seeking an experienced Major Developments Manager to provide strategic leadership and operational management of the Major Developments team within Development Services. The role is pivotal in ensuring the effective delivery of the Council’s statutory planning responsibilities and maximising the contribution of major developments to the regeneration and long-term sustainability of the district.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Major Developments team, ensuring the effective and proactive planning control of major developments, including minerals and waste schemes.
  • Ensure the delivery of a high-quality, customer-focused planning service, including the effective implementation of the Development Team Approach across the service.
  • Drive regeneration and sustainable development outcomes through the successful delivery of planning policies and strategies.
  • Provide professional advice and support to elected Members, servicing Area Planning Panels, the Regulatory and Appeals Committee, and Improvement Committees as required.
  • Lead on operational, policy, and service improvement initiatives within the planning service.
  • Promote the Council’s policies, core values, and services to customers, stakeholders, and partner organisations.

Essential Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ senior-level experience within a Town and Country Planning service.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in managing and leading professional or multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Operational and personnel management within a complex public-sector environment.
  • Leading, developing, and implementing corporate strategies and policies.
  • Advising on policy and operational planning matters.
  • Engaging and promoting services to customers and stakeholders using a range of communication approaches.
