An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Agricultural Soils Specialist to join a major infrastructure programme delivering one of Europe’s largest and most complex projects. This is a key role where you will act as the subject matter expert for all matters relating to the excavation, handling, storage and reinstatement of agricultural soils across the programme. Working closely with the Head of Natural Environment, you will provide technical leadership, assurance and guidance to ensure industry best practice and high environmental standards are achieved throughout delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on all agricultural soils activities across the programme
- Develop and maintain technical standards, specifications and guidance notes
- Provide technical assurance relating to agricultural soil handling and reinstatement
- Support project delivery teams and supply chain partners in implementing best practice
- Undertake technical reviews, analysis and reporting to support decision-making
- Identify root causes of issues through research, investigation and measurement
- Promote continuous improvement and quality standards across the programme
- Engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including technical and non-technical audiences
- Support agriculture, forestry and soils management activities on major infrastructure works
About You
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- Extensive experience as an Agricultural Soils subject matter expert
- Membership of the British Society of Soil Science (BSSS) or equivalent professional experience
- Strong understanding of soil handling and restoration processes on major infrastructure projects
- Experience undertaking Agricultural Land Classification (ALC) surveys
- Experience developing Soil Resource Plans
- Proven experience leading agriculture, forestry and soils management within a major project or large organisation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret technical data and provide assurance
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
