The Managing Director, Global Public Affairs – Europe & United Kingdom will continuously update and execute a comprehensive public affairs, government engagement and political capital management program across Europe and the United Kingdom. Based in London, the role reports to the Managing Director, Head of Global Public Affairs – Transnational in London and works closely with investment departments, regional leadership and enabling functions across the Fund.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and continuously evolve a comprehensive government and stakeholder engagement program across Europe and the United Kingdom, engaging national governments, regulators, central banks, diplomatic stakeholders and European institutions.
- Lead political risk and opportunity monitoring across Europe, covering geopolitical, legislative, regulatory, industrial policy, national security and economic developments that could impact CPP Investments’ portfolio, investment strategy and optionality to invest.
- Provide strategic advice to senior management, investment departments and enabling functions on emerging public policy developments and geopolitical trends relevant to existing investments, new transactions and portfolio‑management activities.
- Develop and execute jurisdiction‑specific engagement strategies focused on priority markets and institutions, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain and the European Union.
- Lead advocacy initiatives where required, covering policy engagement related to investment screening, market access, taxation, regulation, infrastructure, energy transition, capital markets, sustainability reporting and other issues material to CPP Investments.
- Support transaction‑specific government engagement, regulatory approvals and stakeholder‑management efforts associated with investments in strategically important sectors and assets.
- Build and maintain relationships with key government officials, regulators, policymakers, political stakeholders, diplomatic representatives and industry associations across Europe and the UK.
- Partner closely with CPP Investments’ technical experts across Tax, Legal, Communications, Risk and Investment Departments to develop coordinated positions on public policy and regulatory matters.
- Prepare briefing materials, strategic analysis and recommendations for senior executives and Board‑level engagement with government and institutional stakeholders.
- Contribute to a One Fund approach to political capital management by coordinating regional engagement priorities across investment departments and corporate functions.
Qualifications
- Commensurate senior‑level experience in public affairs, government relations, public policy, regulatory affairs, diplomacy, political risk, financial services or a related field.
- Deep understanding of European public policy, political institutions, regulatory frameworks and government machinery, including experience engaging with national governments, regulators and European Union institutions.
- Strong understanding of the European political economy, including competitiveness, industrial policy, energy transition, infrastructure investment, trade policy, economic security and capital markets.
- Demonstrated experience advising senior executives on complex public policy, geopolitical and regulatory issues affecting investment, business strategy or financial markets.
- Strong knowledge of institutional investing, financial services, infrastructure, private markets or related sectors.
- Proven ability to build credibility and influence with senior policymakers, regulators, industry leaders and internal stakeholders.
- Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking and judgment capabilities, with the ability to translate political and policy developments into actionable business and investment insights.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare concise briefing materials for senior decision‑makers.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across cultures, jurisdictions and organizational boundaries.
- Self‑motivated, adaptable and capable of operating effectively in a dynamic and fast‑moving environment.
- Strong organizational, prioritization and stakeholder‑management skills.
- Fluency in English is required; additional European language capabilities will be considered an asset.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly across Europe and internationally.
