A leading global manufacturing organisation is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join their team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a well-established international business that supplies products worldwide and invests heavily in innovation, people development, and operational excellence.
The Role
As Payroll Officer, you will take ownership of key payroll processes and support accurate payroll delivery across weekly and monthly pay cycles.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and update employee data within the Time & Attendance system
- Manage absence records, including holidays, sickness, and maternity leave
- Produce overtime and hours-worked reports
- Coordinate payroll information with payroll processors and internal payroll teams
- Set up and manage BACS payments via banking systems
- Process third-party payments
- Administer salary sacrifice and employee benefit schemes (Cycle to Work, tech schemes, childcare vouchers, etc.)
- Review weekly and monthly payroll files before final approval
- Conduct National Minimum Wage compliance checks
- Maintain accurate payroll and HR system data, including shift patterns
- Liaise with HR and Finance departments regarding payroll reporting
- Respond to employee payroll queries professionally and efficiently
- Support additional payroll and administrative duties as required
Essential Requirements
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English, or relevant payroll/finance qualification (e.g., CIPP Certificate, AAT Level 2/3 or equivalent)
- Proven payroll administration experience
- Experience processing weekly and/or monthly payroll
- Knowledge of statutory payments and pension auto-enrolment
- Experience using payroll software and Microsoft Excel
- Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work to strict deadlines
Desirable Skills
- Full or part qualification with the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP)
- AAT Level 4 or advanced accounting qualification
- Experience with HMRC RTI submissions
- Experience working with HR/payroll systems
