An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established engineering environment. You will take ownership of key projects, support and mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with production teams to deliver innovative engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop product designs in line with project requirements
  • Produce high-quality engineering drawings, models, and technical documentation
  • Liaise effectively with production teams to support manufacturing processes
  • Generate cut lists, jigs, and utilise nesting software (training provided if required)
  • Create user manuals and technical guides for engineers and end users
  • Maintain and manage a log of design issues, ensuring effective resolution
  • Enhance and improve existing product designs
  • Select appropriate materials based on design and customer requirements
  • Conduct structural calculations, stress analysis, and tolerance assessments
  • Prepare design specifications, reports, and procurement documentation
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and health & safety procedures
  • Propose and implement design changes with consideration to cost, feasibility, and timelines

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years experience in mechanical design, ideally within heavy engineering
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Strong technical drawing capability
