We’re partnering with a globally recognised biopharmaceutical organisation to find a Protein Crystallographer to join their innovative Small Molecule Discovery team. This role sits within a newly established Discovery Technology & Platforms function, focused on accelerating drug discovery through cutting-edge structural biology and fragment-based design approaches.
About the Role
This is a hands-on laboratory role focused on fragment-based ligand design (FBLD), where you’ll contribute to building and advancing internal crystallography capabilities. You’ll work within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team to:
- Identify novel binding sites
- Generate structural insights
- Support structure-guided drug design
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse crystallographic datasets from fragment screening campaigns
- Apply refinement tools to model protein–ligand structures
- Coordinate X-ray data collection (in-house and external synchrotrons)
- Contribute to the development of FBLD workflows and methodologies
- Collaborate across biology, chemistry, and computational teams
- Support innovation in identifying cryptic binding sites
Required Experience
- Exposure to protein crystallography or structural biology techniques
- Protein purification or biophysics
- Strong willingness to learn and specialise in crystallography
- Motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to develop in a cutting-edge environment
Desirable Experience
- Experience working with large crystallographic datasets
- Exposure to HPC environments or automation workflows
- Passion for platform development and scientific innovation
- Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills
