This role has the responsibility to operate the designated Packaging equipment and systems to produce product that meets pre-defined quality attributes and production schedules, at the EML Production facility in Hatfield and to ensure the efficient operation of all packaging operations. To ensure that operations conducted are performed in accordance with the requirements of the company Corporate Standards, Quality System, GMP and GDP Guidelines and Industry Standards.
Duties are performed to ensure:
- A safe working environment is maintained for self and other employees, ensuring all near miss incidents and accidents are reported in accordance with procedures.
- The Quality of products manufactured and released is assured through adherence to all procedures.
- Opportunities to improve operations and reduce cost are identified and progressed through the continuous improvement and demand innovation initiatives.
- All stakeholder and customer expectations are understood and met through communication.
- Performance is in line with personal and company objectives with demonstrated behaviours and competencies.
Working relationships of this position include:
- Quality Department to ensure all activities are conducted compliantly and the product meets appropriate quality standards.
- All other Production Operation departments to ensure compliance to company policies.
- HR and Health & Safety departments.
- Technical Departments, to obtain technical guidance on qualification/validation activities and information of new and existing product/materials.
- External parties to support EML's operations.
- Planning – to ensure the production schedules are known and adhered to.
- Engineering – to ensure support and maintenance of production equipment and services.
- Facility Maintenance – to co-ordinate all the services production operations.
Job specific responsibilities include:
- Operation of packaging lines, participation in manual packaging operations, completion of batch documentation.
- Accountable for the set-up of packaging equipment to ensure correct functionality, calibration compliance and effective running of the lines.
- Willing and able to make appropriate decisions on the line regarding its operation and the quality of the product.
- Dismantle, clean and reassemble equipment, ensuring it is well maintained.
- Carry out in-process tests, yield calculations, product sampling and inspection to ensure all production meets predefined quality attributes.
- Responsible for the effective training and final assessment of others in packaging activities (especially the set-up, stripdown, operation of all packaging equipment).
- Responsible for minimising downtime to maximise productivity by having effective handovers and accurate line set-ups.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities that result in cost savings and more efficient ways of working (Focus on Yield, Right First Time, Rate improvements).
- Responsible for compliance to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in areas of responsibility.
- Responsible for compliance to health and safety procedures in areas of responsibility.
- Actively promote safety awareness and improvements.
- Conduct safety risk assessments.
- Write, review and update packaging documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures.
- Participate in quality investigations and initiate deviations.
- Represent packaging in internal, customer and regulatory audits.
- Liaise with all other departments within EML to ensure business requirements are being met.
- Prepared to take on roles of First Aider, Safety Rep and Fire Warden.
- Participate in the installation, qualification and validation of new packaging equipment and tooling.
- Support Engineering and Contractor activities.
- Assist Engineering Technicians in packaging machine routine maintenance and line qualification activities.
- Serialisation subject matter expert within packaging department including the management of articles.
- Mentor Production Operation apprentices.
- Conduct Production Facility tours to new company employees and external visitors.
- Address ‘equipment trip outs’ in the Plant room by liaising with Engineering department or dealing with when ‘out of hours’ to ensure continuation of packaging operation.
- Raise Maximo Work Orders to cover engineering activity in the packaging area.
- Represent Packaging in relevant projects acting as the production subject matter expert.
- Lead and complete Quality Risk Assessments within the packaging area.
Skills and Qualifications:
- NVQ level 3 Manufacturing, Engineering or related field.
- GCSE (C or above) Maths, English, Science.
- Bonus HND/NHC in packaging technology.
- Ideally Packaging Engineering knowledge and experience or substantial pharmaceutical packaging line experience.
- Good mechanical aptitude, accuracy and documentation skills.
- Significant experience in an environment operating automated packaging equipment.
- Computer literate (MS Office suite & SAP).
